Our Programs

D-REK's Angels & Warriors is a survivor-led HIV education and advocacy nonprofit in Brunswick, Georgia. These are the ways we show up in the community, month after month.

First Friday Outreach

On the first Friday of every month, you'll find our table in downtown Brunswick. Stop by and:

  • Test your HIV knowledge. Answer a question, win some candy.

  • Grab a pamphlet. Straight talk on HIV, prevention, testing, and living well with HIV.

  • Get a home test kit. Scan our QR code to request an HIV home test kit through the Georgia Department of Public Health.

No judgment, no pressure. Just honest answers from people who live it.

Survivor Speaking

Founder Derek Canas acquired HIV as an infant through a blood transfusion during surgery for a congenital heart defect. He went undiagnosed for sixteen years. Today he is a long-term survivor who speaks openly about growing up with HIV, living with HIV and heart disease, and the people HIV advocacy too often leaves out.

Derek speaks at schools and colleges, churches and faith groups, health fairs, workplaces, and community events. His talks put a face to the facts and leave room for real questions.
