Who we are
D-REK’s Angels & Warriors is a Brunswick-based, survivor-led, 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded by Derek Canas, a long-term HIV survivor, speaker, and advocate. We work to create honest conversations, increase visibility, and strengthen community engagement around HIV close to home.

Why this work still matters: Here
HIV is often described as a solved or manageable issue. That framing does not reflect reality in Georgia or in Glynn County.
Smaller communities continue to face gaps in awareness, visibility, education, and access. These gaps can leave individuals, couples, and families without the information, support, or sense of connection they need.
In Brunswick and throughout Glynn County, we continue to see:
• Limited local HIV awareness events
• Gaps in consistent community education
• Barriers to prevention access for serodiscordant couples
• Insufficient resources during key moments, such as World AIDS Day
• A lack of visible, sustained community engagement around HIV
These gaps are not the result of indifference. They are the result of systems stretched thin and conversations that often overlook smaller communities.
What we do
D-REK’s Angels & Warriors focuses on education, visibility, and honest community engagement around HIV.
Our work includes:
• Community education and awareness
• Public speaking and mission-centered outreach
• Visibility efforts that normalize honest conversations about HIV
• Event coordination, including our annual Toy Drive
• Building the groundwork for future community-wide awareness events
• Operational sustainability that allows this work to continue year after year
At this time, we are not positioned to provide direct financial or case-management support to individuals or families. Our role is education, visibility, and community engagement: work that helps create the conditions for better outcomes.

Local businesses are trusted voices in Brunswick and Glynn County. When a business visibly supports HIV awareness and education, it sends a clear message: people impacted by HIV are part of our community and deserve to be seen.
For the past nine years, our annual Toy Drive has succeeded because of local business support. Without those relationships, that work would not have been possible.

$100 monthly · $300 quarterly · $1,000 annually
Community Champion
A stronger ongoing partnership for businesses that want to take a more visible role in supporting education and awareness efforts.
Includes everything in Community Ally, plus:
• Business logo featured on our website supporter page
• Quarterly social-media recognition
• Direct relationship with organizational leadership
$300 monthly · $800 quarterly · $3,000 annually
Legacy Partner
Our highest level of partnership for businesses helping carry this work forward for the long term.
Includes everything in Community Champion, plus:
• Highest placement on our website supporter page
• Brief business description featured on our website
• Recognition graphic included at the end of our social-media videos
$500 monthly · $1,250 quarterly · $4,500 annually
All partnership levels begin with a three-month minimum commitment and may be paid monthly, quarterly, or annually. There is no long-term contract. Businesses may adjust or discontinue participation after the initial commitment period.
Prefer to contribute without an ongoing partnership? One-time donations of any amount are always welcome.

Built on Transparency
All board members are volunteers. No board member receives payment for time or services. Reimbursement is limited to documented expenses such as gas or supplies.
The Community Ally Program is nonpartisan and does not involve political campaigning, endorsements, or legislative advocacy.
All funds support mission delivery and organizational sustainability.
